I... read more made a joke about shrapnel in the title but it seems like all the personal collections from all the schoolboys collecting this at the time has been utilised which is really touching, Bearing in mind it was life and death for the airmen it seems quite appropriate in a way and the fate of a lot of them is detailed in the exhibit.

A must for WW11 aviation enthusiasts with rare aircraft albeit not yet restored but displayed as found in the field of conflict. So much to read and learn with genuine artefacts to display the stories of history.
The volunteers are also very welcoming and will take the time to relate their extensive knowledge of the exhibits and history. Attached to the museum is a separate display of historic aircraft and military radios, fascinating. Good value for money.

My son was fascinated by the artefacts especially the planes and having watched Band of brothers it was great to go onto the actual plane used for filming. We were there for about 1.5 hours and kept saying to each other ‘look have you seen this?’. In my boys education so far they haven’t taken one school trip to any war related museum, we had to go here to learn about the bombing of Petworth School and the loss of children’s lives, each of the coffins carried on Canadian troop’s jeeps. Thanks to the enthusiasts to preserve local war history we can bolster our children’s education on the important things they need to know. We went onto to see the Balcombe Viad

The sort of place that you would need to return to as it is difficult to take it all in during a single visit.

The exhibits were accompanied by plenty of information and often accompanied by information about those involved, not just those who gave their lives but those who survived. While looking at a restored aeroplane is great, being able to see the salvaged aircraft and other items makes it all the more interesting. A great find.

  A secret collection of genuine artefacts from aviation history in the sussex countryside. A non profitable display supported my volenteers and donations. Its small scale with basic facilities but... read more for people who are enthusiastic in aviation it’s a gem of real life treasure! Staff are knowledgable and passionate and my 5 and 7 yr old had a lovely hour looking around and sitting in the cockpit of an aircraft. We will definitely be back!

They also had good social distancing awareness and it’s in a light and airy hanger/warehouse.

The Dakota is from tv series Band of Brothers which you can go inside. You can also sit inside cockpit of Chipmunk (it's a bit tight!) 🙂

This is a good place for any child or adult with an interest in WW2 or aircraft.

The owners were warm and friendly and a tea and coffee machine on site!

  A really informative and moving collection of artefacts, organised into themed displays. None of the polish of the bigger museums and all the better for it!

  We had often driven past this museum so decided to visit. It was really interesting and the 2 volunteers on duty were really friendly and knowledgeable. There are so many... read more artefacts including from planes that were shot down or crashed and these have come from various countries. There is also a section on the home guard and various life stories of different service men. If you are even a little bit interested in the 2nd world war this is definitely a place you should visit. The only thing I would say is if you visit in the winter wrap up warm as the museum is in an outbuilding and there is no heating so it was a bit cold.
